Dr Parker - Combining expertise in Mohs Surgery and Plastic Surgery for Skin Cancer Treatment

Dr.Thornwell Parker.: Welcome to Skin Cancer Consultants. I'm Dr. Thornwell Parker, and I'm Director of Skin Cancer Consultants. One of the things that makes unique is that I'm dual trained in both plastic surgery, as well as Mohs surgery and procedural dermatology.
This unique set of training makes us sort of a one-stop shop for skin cancer removal, and that stems from the fact that we have expertise both in the removal of skin cancer, using the Mohs surgery technique, as well as plastic surgery, which we often utilize techniques from that in order to close up holes after skin cancer removal.
One of the things that's unique is my training as both a plastic surgeon, board certified, trained here in Dallas at UT Southwestern, as well as my training in procedural dermatology and Mohs surgery. This combination of expertise is unique. Only about seven people in the world have both expertise. And this gives us some advantage, I think, in both the removal and the repair of skin cancers.
Most of our procedures are done under the safety of local anesthesia, meaning that most patients can eat what they want, drink what they want, can drive here and even drive home after their surgery. Our mission statement is to promote skin health through prevention, intervention, and rejuvenation.
